The WORKS clothing room provides high quality, clean, gently used children’s and teen clothing to Shoreline School District families experiencing circumstances that make it challenging to clothe their children for school
Hours & Location
The WORKS is open to Shoreline School District families Wednesday evenings during the school year from 6:30-8:00pm. Identification is required and can be a Washington State Drivers License or ID or Shoreline School ID. The WORKS clothing room is located in the north portable at North City Elementary, 810 NE 190th Street, Shoreline. See flyer for details.
DONATIONS
Clothing
The WORKS accepts washed, gently used children’s and teen clothing, clean shoes, purses and backpacks Wednesday evenings 5:30-8:00pm at the sorting room located in the south portable at North City Elementary. If you are unable to drop off donations on Wednesdays call the Shoreline PTA Council info line 206-393-4916 and leave a message for The WORKS. Someone will contact you to make arrangements for a special drop off time.
DO NOT ACCEPT: Toys, bedding, books, baby furniture, and household goods
New Products
The WORKS provides each child new socks, underwear and hygiene products at the Back to School Event or a family’s first visit to The WORKS each school year. See Product Drive List for items needed. To document your groups product drive please complete the Product Drive Donation Form.
Monetary
Monetary donations are also needed to purchase new underwear, socks, and personal hygiene products. The WORKS Clothing Room is operated by the Shoreline PTA Council, which is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Your donations are tax deductible the fullest extent allowed by law. Checks can be mailed to Shoreline PTA Council “The WORKS”, PO Box 55784, Shoreline, WA 98155-5784.
Golden Hanger Award
Each year The WORKS recognizes outstanding product drive and financial donations from local PTA units, community groups and corporate donors with the “Golden Hanger” Award. For more information see Golden Hanger.
VOLUNTEERS
The WORKS is run by a committee of PTA volunteers representing many different schools throughout the Shoreline School District. They are supported each Wednesday by volunteers from local PTA units. Each local unit signs up to assist 2-3 Wednesdays during the school year. For this year’s schedule see Local Unit Schedule.
PTA volunteers must read and agree to the Volunteer Guidelines before volunteering on site at The WORKS. A Volunteer Agreement must be filled out, signed and turned in the first time one volunteers each year. You can contact the Volunteer Coordinator to confirm you have an agreement filed for the current year.
Teen Volunteer Hours
The WORKS provides opportunity for teen volunteer hours. There is limited space available on Wednesdays and teens must make arrangements ahead of time by contacting the Volunteer Coordinator. See contact list.
Youth Groups & Community Volunteers
The WORKS has many opportunities for groups to assist on special projects throughout the year. Sorting and packaging product drive items, restocking the clothing room, helping set up for special events are some of the ways groups can participate. To arrange for your group to volunteer please contact the Volunteer Coordinator. See contact list.
FAMILY SERVICE CHAIRS
Each local PTA unit liaison with The WORKS committee is the Family Service Chair. Local units are provided each year with current poster, newsletter article and contact information. The WORKS committee works with the Family Service Chair to distribute information to local school families about the service and about donation needs. See Manual.
